Why did no one tell me that this exists? This is a shot (by someone called Mashyrik) of the famous Russian Orthodox wooden church called Kizhi. It’s famous, it’s a world heritage site, and I never even heard of it until I tripped over it on Julie’s blog. (More absolutely stunning photos behind that link, by the way.)
I think the word Julie used to describe it suits it perfectly: Organic architecture
My urge to travel to Russia has just increased drastically. I think I could spend hours by these churches with a sketchbook and camera.
